The successful execution of the research project depends on the researcher's effort and the available infrastructure to conduct the research. Completing research projects involves expenses for man and material, and funding is essential to meet these requirements.
I’ve been fortunate to win many competitive funding awards that support my research and affirm my identity as a multicultural research engineer. Some awards are detailed below.
-
NC A&T Chancellor's Distinguished Fellow, 2018 - 2023
The Chancellor's Distinguished Fellowship is a prestigious award to qualified Ph.D. students in STEM disciplines at North Carolina A&T State University. The fellowship aims to increase the number of native Black Americans earning a Ph.D. degree in STEM disciplines through a financial assistance program. It consists of a stipend and supplemental benefits funded through a Title III HBGI grant from the U.S. Department of Education awarded for one academic year at a time.
Each fellowship will be for $39,600 for 12 months.
-
Institute of International Education (IIE) Boren Fellowship, 2022-23
The Boren Fellowship funds graduate students to obtain long-term linguistic and cultural immersion abroad. The award provides funding to study overseas in geographical areas for languages critical to U.S. interests and underrepresented in study abroad. My fellowship funded 25 weeks in five culturally distinct regions of Tanzania in East Africa for the Swahili language. I am pictured with Dr. Joachim Kisanji of MS-TCDC receiving a certificate of achievement for completing his intermediate Swahili course.
Each fellowship is for up to $25,000 for up to 12 months.
